Scott, No such thing as a stupid question. The toaster will provide you
with a video switcher capable of digital video effects, a character
generator, a paint program, chroma fx, and of course lightwave. You don't
need the Flyer to use the toaster but you do need the toaster to use the
Flyer.

 Without the Flyer, you could use the Flyer in a traditional(linear) edit
system. This requires video decks with TBCS as sources, 2 decks for AB
roll.You would also need a Record vcr, and an edit controller. If you
already own this equipment, you could just add a toaster to your system.
If not, the Flyer is definitely more cost effective than purchasing all
those decks and controller.

 The Flyer is a Non-linear edit system. You digitize your footage on to
some hard drives, and then edit completely in your computer. The Flyer
requires 2 Video Hard drives and 1 audio drive. With this setup you can
do AB roll editing using all the toaster effects and features. In
addition you can use the Flyer to record your Lightwave anims.

Since the Flyer uses HDs to edit, you only really need 1 Editing deck
that can be used as both a source VTR and to record your finished product.
